Giani Ram Singh was also present at the May 26 bhog of Bhai Bhupinder Singh, an associate of Bhai Dhadrianwale who was killed by assaliants from the Damdami Taksal (Dhumma).

Giani Ram Singh was originally give dastar of the Damdami Taksal by the Akal Takht Sahib after the passing away of Baba Thakur Singh.  However, later, SGPC and Akal Takht Sahib Jathedars, along with Akali Dal leaders recognized Baba Harnaam Singh Dhumma as the chief.
