AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Sikh political prisoner Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera surrendered before the Amritsar Jail authorities on May 21 after 28 days of parole. It is notable here that Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera was granted bail for 28 days after 25 years and 6 months of imprisonment.
Bhai Khaira surrendered before the Jail authorities at 4 pm. His supporters and relatives were present at his home at the time of his departure. Talking with Sikh24’s correspondent before departing from home, Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera thanked the entire Sikh community for its support.
On being asked about his permanent release, Bhai Khera said, “my parents are in old age and they need my support in the last phase of their lives. I also hope to spend this time in their service.”
Bhai Khera explained that his mother Bibi Jagir Kaur has lost eye vision and father S. Banta Singh is also suffering from severe illness. He appealed the Government to grant him permanent release so that he could look after his parents.
Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera was shifted from Karnataka’s Central jail in May 2015 due to efforts of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa and Sikh organizations, including the Sikh Relief.
