Senior Officials Promise Justice After Attack on Dhadrianwale’s Jatha

Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale and Sukhbir Badal at Gurdwara Permeshar Dwar on May 19

LUDHIANA, Punjab—Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Badal spoke with Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale over telephone on May 19 and extended his condolences.  Sr. Badal strongly condemned the deadly attack on Bhai Dhadrianwale, and promised that the accused will be brought to justice soon.

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal also personally visited Gurdwara Parmeshar Dwar to extend his condolences to Bhai Dhadrianwale.  Providing details about the meeting, Bhai Dhadrianwale said that the Punjab Government offered security, however the latter refused.  In a statement, Dhadrianwale said, “I don’t feel right traveling as a high profile person where there are police jeeps infront and behind me.  I have postponed all programs for the time being hence there is no need for security.”

“I know the police have arrested a few people and the Government has advised me that all investigations will be completed shortly.  However at this point, I am not going to make any personal statement, rather, I will wait for the Government to publicize all details about the culprits.  I don’t want to accuse anyone, and the Government must probe and give details about the masterminds of the assassination plot,” he said.

Sikh24 has learned from internal sources that Sukhbir Badal had instructed infamous Inspector General of Police Parmraj Umranangal to personally meet Bhai Dhadrianwala and provide him security.  Umranangal is known to have taken a hard stance on Sikh activists in past, hence Dhadrianwale did not accept the offer.

On May 17, Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale was attacked by some assailants near Mullanpur Dakha when the conclave was on its way to village Isewal for a diwan. The assailants fired many gunshots but the Bhai Dhadrianwale escaped the deadly attack. However, his aide Bhai Bhupinder Singh was shot dead.

Ludhiana Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh told Sikh24 on earlier today that the police have registered an FIR on complaint of Dhadrianwala’s driver against unidentified assailants under sections 302/307/427/148/149/25/27/54/59 of Cr. P.C. (Code of Criminal Procedure).  He added that a Special Investigation Team has been appointed to probe the case.

“We are treating this case as high priority and several senior officials, including DCP Dhruman Nimble, ADCP Balkar Singh, ACP Rupinder Kaur Sran and SHO Mohammad Zameel have been included in the Special Investigation Team,” he added.

Commissioner Aulakh claimed that all the accused involved in deadly attack have been identified and five have been arrested.  While identification of the fifth assailant has not been made public, Aulakh identified the four arrested yesterday as Jaspreet Singh, Gagandeep Singh, Hardev Singh and Manjit Singh.  “Initial reports have revealed that the assailants attacked Bhai Dhadrianwala for his bad remarks against Damdami Taksal Chief Baba Harnam Singh Ji Dhumma,” he added.

He added that the CCTV footages have revealed that the assailants had brought most of the tent equipment along with them.  “One of the jeep is registered in Delhi and the tent equipment could be seen clearly in it from the toll plaza footage,” he added.

  1. Badal are now after the votes as Ranjit Singh has a lot of following thats all! He is not concerned about anyone being hurt. Typical Badal government.

  2. Didn’t Sukhbir Badal similarly turn up at the houses of the two Sikhs murdered by Punjab Police officers seven months ago to offer his condolences (and jobs for the victim’s families) and promises that their killers would be brought to book? SEVEN months later nothing has happened except the ordering of a second whitewash inquiry after the first by Justice Katju finds the police culpable of homicide. Dirty politics and crocodile tears over another dead body of another Sikh slain in the streets of Punjab.
