Word Of The Day : bhaakhiaa

ਭਾਖਿਆ (bhaakhiaa)
Meaning: noun: Speech, language.

Quote:
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ   ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਇ    ਭਾਖਿਆ ਭਾਉ ਅਪਾਰੁ॥
saachaa sahib    saach naai    bhaakhiaa bhaau apaar.
The Almighty is true (eternal); His eternal form is infused in His Name. He is infinite and His language is love. – Guru Nanak Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, Page 01

Message: Continuing the theme, Guru Nanak, in stanza 4, says that the Divine is eternal and beyond any limits. He is ever-present. He dwells in Naam – where there is divine awareness, and the divine qualities are practised. His language is love and anyone can converse with Him, as opposed to the widely held belief in past that only a particular language is the medium of communication and only those who are expert in it could communicate with Him.

People make their requests to the Divine and beg things from Him. They say, “Give me this, give me that”, and the Great Giver keeps on giving out of His love. Then, what can one do in return that one may perceive His spiritual realm (realise His omnipresence) and invite His pleasure? What words should one utter, upon hearing which one becomes endearing to Him – another way of asking how to become a sachiaar or a personification of Truth, so that we can walk in step with hukam?

The Guru reiterates that the Divine cannot be pleased by making any material offering, as all that we have is provided by Him. Hence, live in His divine awareness constantly and dedicate a small part of your day when the mind is clear and free from clutter (the ambrosial hour of dawn). Reflect on His blessings and virtues. And, by doing so, be motivated to apply these virtues in your life. Look at them not as an entitlement earned, but as a manifestation of divine grace that will show us the way to becoming a sachiaar

The love one strives for is obtained through divine blessings and it is through divine benevolence that the door to salvation (the conquest of vices) is reached. One is enabled to realise that the True Master Himself is manifesting through everyone and everything.

Etymology: Modification of bhaakhaa, from Sanskrit bhaashaa (speech) → Pali → Prakrit bhaasaa (speech, language) → Old Punjabi bhaakhaa.
