SYFB Amritsar President Dr. Gurjinder Singh arrested by Harike Police

PATTI, Punjab—President of Sikh Youth Federation Bhindranwala (Amritsar), Dr. Gurjinder Singh, was reportedly arrested by the District Police of Tarn Taran on March 25 when he went to the City Police Station in relation to FIR No. 327 from December 12, 2015, registered against him under sedition charges. It is notable that Dr. Gurjinder Singh is on anticipatory bail in the case registered against him but the Police have indicted him in another case to keep him behind bars.

Dr. Gurjinder Singh was detained in the City Police Station on the evening of March 25 by Additional SHO Manjinder Singh and was later handed over to the Harike Police. SHO Balkar Singh of Harike Police Station has indicted Dr. Gurjinder Singh in the case of blockading the Harike Bridge for 11 days during protests following the period of desecration incidents last year.

Dr. Gurjinder Singh was produced before the court of Judge Gagandeep Ghuman of Patti by the Harike Police and the judge sent him to Patti jail.  FIR No. 155 was registered against Sikh activists on October 29 for blocking the Harike Bridge, but the name of Dr. Gurjinder Singh was added to it on March 26. Allegedly, the Tarn Taran and Jhabal police wanted to indict Dr. Gurjinder Singh in other cases of organizing protests.
