SGPC President Appeals To Indian Foreign Minister Arrange To Release 11 Punjabi Youth Detained In ‘Al Ain’ (UAE)

uae_on_world_mapAMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—SGPC President Avtar Makkar has written a letter to the Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, appealing her to pressurize the UAE government to ensure the release of 11 Punjabi youth detained in a jail of Al Ain.

He has also appealed to Chief Minister Parkash Badal and Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal to take up the matter with the central government to ensure their ssfe return.

Highlighting the sensitivity of the case, Makkar said in the letter that the Punjabi youth had been misguided by the travel agents, who have put their life in danger. He added that the families have spent extortionate figures for the better future of their children and the Indian government should take up the matter with UAE authorities immediately.

Al Ain is the fourth largest city in the territory of United Arab Emirates and is owned by Abu Dhabi. The United Arab Emirates is build-up of seven kingdoms namely Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras-Al-Khaimah and Umm-Al-Qaiwain. In addition to a federal president and prime minister, each emirate kingdom has a separate ruler who oversees the local government.
