Political Sikh Prisoner Bhai Hardeep Singh To Be Released Permanently on January 7

AMRITSAR SAHIB—Political Sikh prisoner Bhai Hardeep Singh will be permanently released from the Central Jail of Amritsar on January 7. He is currently on parole of 14 days which will complete on January 7. Bhai Hardeep Singh is resident of village Chuslewal in Tarn Taran province.

On being contacted by Sikh24, Jail Superintendent RK Sharma confirmed the development and said that they have received the orders from government allowing permanent release to Bhai Hardeep Singh. He added that Bhai Hardeep Singh will return to jail on January 7 after enjoying 14 days parole and will be released soon after completion of official formalities.

Bhai Hardeep Singh had been languishing in jail for the last 18 years. At the age of 27, he was arrested and then sentenced for lifetime in murder case. Initially, he was charged with TADA (Terrorists and Disruptive Activities Prevention Act) but the charges were later absolved by the Court.

Meanwhile, Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa has welcomed the permanent release of Bhai Hardeep Singh. He has also expressed hope for the release of other political Sikh prisoners.
