High Uranium Levels in Punjab Ground Water

FARIDKOT, Punjab—South Africa based clinical metal toxicologist Dr. Carin Smit has made an astonishing revelation about Punjab’s ground water.

A new research conducted by her revealed that Punjab’s water contains excessive quantities of uranium especially in the Malwa region.

One of the greatest threats to the existence of Punjabi civilization, Uranium is causing impotency among male residents, and reducing fertility rates among females.

She said, “For 50 years, the productivity of Punjabi males, especially those of Malwa, has been only half, and the problem of low sperm rate is increasing day by day. Not only this, it is the primary cause of cancer, neurological, and birth abnormality among the residents of the region. It is proving disastrous, especially for the people living rural areas.”

Dr. Smit stressed that excessive presence of uranium in people of the Malwa region of Punjab is the foremost reason that they are suffering from cancer. The role of uranium in the incidence of cancer has unfortunately been negated several times by the state, as well as the central government.

Dr. Smit studied the hair samples in 2009, and urine samples in 2010, of 149 children who were born with deformities. She sent the samples to Micro Trace mineral laboratory in Germany where after testing it was found that the deformities were caused due to an excessive prevalence of uranium. The children were treated at Faridkot.

Dr. Smit added, “As per the Bhabha Atomic Research Center” (BARC), the uranium level in this region has reached levels of up to 1000 parts per billion(ppb), while the permissible limit is 15ppb.”

“Uranium toxicity is much higher there as compared to the Malwa region of Punjab, but the spray of fertilizers is filtered, and eating habits are much safer there, but in Punjab the use of fertilizer, and pesticides, is at much higher levels, which is leading to cancer, and deformities among the people,” she said.

“Desiring to conduct a full study to establish excess uranium presence leading to cancer incidence, I had written to Punjab government in 2013 to provide infrastructure to conduct the study with Japanese scientists, but am still awaiting the government response,” added the doctor.

She said a study published recently in a research journal titled Comparing Metal Concentration in the Hair of Cancer patients, and Healthy people, Living in Malwa Region of Punjab by scientists from USA, and Germany, claimed that the excess prevalence of uranium is the reason behind cancer.

  1. One easy non Governmental Remedial measure is :–
New Punjab needs to be built on

    1) Every banks of Rivers on this Earth and
    2) Near water source in this Universe

  2. Punjab and the Indian government have a big Task on there hand.
    They need to set up

    An “EXPERT COMMITTE”

to look into this whole affair to answer a whole lot of questions and suggest Remedial measures from Experts of BARC and IAEA.

    How did it come
    Will it increase over time
    How to decontaminate it
    When did the Problem start

    etc etc
