CHANDIGARH, Punjab—President of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) Simranjit Singh Mann has moved a petition in the Punjab & Haryana High Court challenging Punjab government for registering sedition charges against him. The party head has moved the petition via his Advocate Council Ranjan Lakhanpal. Hearing on the petition will be held after the appointment of judge on the petition by the Punjab & Haryana High Court.

Mann has stated in the petition that the FIR was registered against him just on the basis of congratulations by Jathedar Wadhawa Singh Babbar on the appointment of Jagtar Singh Hawara as Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Terming the ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ as a democratic gathering, Mann has claimed that demanding a separate nation was a democratic right of the Sikhs and the organizers did nothing wrong by holding a congregation of the Sikhs.

It is notable that Simranjit Singh Mann had also moved a petition against his arrest and mishandling by Punjab police on November 16 in Punjab & Haryana High Court.
