Over 2,500 Sikhs Visit Historical Gurdwaras in Pakistan; Major Celebrations Underway at Nankana Sahib

NANKANA SAHIB, Pakistan—Sikh Jatha of over 2,500 pilgrims that arrived in Pakistan this past weekend, has continued to pay homage at historical Gurdwaras across the country.  Special arrangements have been made by the Pakistan Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and the Evacuee Trust Property Board to accommodate the pilgrims.

Sikhs are visiting Nankana Sahib to mark birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.  The Sikh jatha had arrived in Pakistan via trains.  They first attended inauguration of Sri Akhand Path Sahib in Nankana Sahib.  While major programs are taking place at Nankana Sahib, the Jatha has also paid obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib.  The Jatha will today visit Gurdwara Sacha Sauda in Farooqabad and then return to Nankana Sahib.

While speaking with Sikh24, an elderly Sikh man named Gurdev Singh who is visiting Nankana Sahib for the first time said that even though he has not been in this country since partition, it still feels like home.

“We were young when the partition took place, but I am back here today.  It feels like I had never left even though I missed this place dearly,” said Gurdev Singh.  He said that there were some hurdles earlier when they had arrived, but “I have nothing to complain,” he added.
