Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara Acquitted by Court of 24 Year Old Attempted Murder Case

ROOP NAGAR, Punjab—Alleged former Babbar Khalsa activist and Chief of Khalistan Tiger Force Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara was acquitted by a local court in a 24 years old attempted murder case, registered against him in the rural Police Station of Roop Nagar. He was indicted in several provisions of Terrorists and Disruptive Prevention Act (TADA) and Indian Penal Code.

An FIR sections 307 (attempt to murder), 148 (rioting deadly weapons), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 3, 4, 5 of Terrorists and Disruptive (Prevention) Act (TADA) was registered against Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara and others in December 26, 1991 in Roop Nagar Police station. Sections 24, 54, 59 of Arms were also levelled against Bhai Tara and others in this case.

A hearing of the case was conducted by additional Session Judge Sunita Kumari Sharma on November 23. Bhai Tara appeared in the Court via video conference from Burail Jail of Chandigarh. After thoroughly examining the facts of the case, Justice Sunita Kumari Sharma acquitted Bhai Tara.

It is noteworthy that other persons indicted in this case were acquitted by the Court earlier, while the trial against Bhai Tara was pending as he was declared the proclaimed offender.
