AMBALA, Haryana—Prominent Sikh journalist Surinder Singh has been charged and imprisoned in a 27 year old case. Surinder Singh is a journalist who has extensively covered Sikh political issues. He was eminent in providing coverage for Bapu Surat Singh’s hunger strike. It is strongly suspected that the police was continuously harassing Surinder Singh to stop his investigative coverage from reaching the public domain.
Surinder Singh is currently being held at the Ambala Central Jail and a court hearing is expected to take place later this month. After his arrest on October 21, Surinder Singh was presented in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Kumar. The 27 year old case dates back to June 1988 when Surinder Singh was affiliated with the Sikh Student Federation.
Sikh24 has learned that Surinder Singh had been forced to surrender by the police. He was under the radar of the Punjab Government due to his involvement in promoting Punjab and Sikh issues through mainstream journalism. He was detained in February 2015 along with Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa’s son – Ravinder Jeet Singh Gogi but later released due to international pressure.
Even though the statute of ‘Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act’ (TADA) has expired, it has apparently been used against Surinder Singh. Surinder Singh was earlier detained in Punjab, however later transferred to Haryana.

Trust me, khalistan is a bad idea, always had been. Our Guru’s did not in any of there adversity want a separate land, why do we? They wanted us to unite not separate. We are wasting money in this idea and I reckon many people are also making money off the back of this khalistan movement. Hypothetically if we did get ‘khalistan’. We would argue of whose in power, money and no one willlisten to anyone leading to total anarchy. Plus there will be a lot of bloodshed (ask people from the stupid partition), plus we will love control of out religious janam asthaan and any other related. Bad idea.
