JAMMU & KASHMIR—Jammu Sikh sangat today held a protest march against reinstatement of police officer responsible for the martyrdom of Shaheed Bhai Jashjeet Singh Jammu. The protesters traversed pathway from Digiana Council Office to Divcom Office in Panama Cross Road while protesting. A delegation of protesters also submitted a memorandum to the Divcom officials to suspend the police officials as soon as possible.
During June 2015, a clash between Police and Sikh masses in Jammu led the police to fire upon the protesters. Sikhs were protesting against removal of a poster of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. During the incident, a bystander named named Jashjeet Singh fell victim to the bullets fired by Police.
Outrage among Sikhs pressurized the BJP government to suspend responsible Police cops and the government had also promised of an independent probe into the case. However, as months have passed by since the incident, the police officer who had killed the Sikh youth has been re-instated and no inquiry has been completed.
