In a post on Facebook, United Sikhs stated, “We strongly condemn these acts of aggression; rallies such as these contribute to dangerous beliefs and opinions that have the potential to escalate to attacks such as the shooting by a white supremacist at a Sikh place of worship in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, three years ago.”.
A map of protests scheduled to take place is available at this link.
“Unfortunately, such violence is not uncommon in a post-9/11 world. On September 15, 2001, Balbir Singh was shot outside of his gas station, his assailant describing himself as a patriot. The Sikh community continues to live in fear of such attacks today,” posted United Sikhs.
A number of these rally’s were cancelled earlier today due to opposition by various groups fearing growing backlash in the country, however some protests are still scheduled to take place tomorrow.
