AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Sikh24 has learned that the Punjab Police arrested a number of Sikh leaders yesterday for opposing Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s pardon.  Namely, leaders from the Dal Khalsa and Shiromani Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) were arrested for pasting posters seeking boycott of Akal Takht’s appointed Jathedar Gurbachan Singh and other Jathedars.

Encircling the head-office of the Dal Khalsa, police arrested SAD (Panch Pardhani) leader Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema and Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwarpal Singh. Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema was released later, while Kanwarpal Singh was sent to jail under sections 107-151.

Prior to this, Sikh Youth of Punjab president Parmjit Singh Tanda, district president Gagandeep Singh and owner of printing press Vipul who printed the poster, were arrested as well.

Reacting on the arrests of Sikh leaders, Harpal Singh Cheema said that Punjab government was misusing the Police and violating democratic rights of the people.
