ANANDPUR SAHIB, Punjab—Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Mal Singh was attacked by a Nihang Singh at Anandpur Sahib earlier today.  Giani Mal Singh was on his way back home after holding a meeting with the Takht Sahib manager when he was attacked.

The attacker, named Joga Singh, aged 25, has been arrested by the police and is currently undergoing investigations.  An FIR has been registered by the police.  Joga Singh is a pathi Singh at Gurdwara Bhai Gurditta Ji at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib.

Giani Mal Singh was taken to the hospital at once and later released after being treated for his wounds.

After being released from the hospital, Giani Mal Singh stated that he was attacked due to his presence in the meeting where Sacha Sauda cult chief was pardoned.  “We pardoned him considering the current situation at hand.  This will bring larger benefit to the community in future,” he said.

Police has identified the attacker as a resident of village Makkuwal (Sri Amritsar).  As per reports, he was wearing Nihang Singh attire during the time of attack.  He met Giani Mal Singh outside the manager’s office and told the Jathedar that he wanted to discuss some matters with him, shortly before attacking him with a barcha.  Giani Mal Singh’s security guards were accompanying him during the incident.
