TARN TARAN, Punjab—Former DGP (Jails) Shashi Kant, Sikh scholar Gurtej Singh IAS and Dr. Gurdarshan Singh Dhillon, noted Sikh thinker, today launched new  political party named “Punjab Lok Lehar Party (PLLP) in Tarn Taran with a clear vision of empowering people by nurturing the lofty ideals of true democracy and secularism.

A meeting was conducted in this regard in Ranjit Farm here on a large scale. However, it failed to draw sizeable number of people.

While addressing the gathering, Shashi Kant said, “Main motive of the party is to unify the opposition in Punjab except Congress so that ruling SAD-BJP alliance would not be able to take advantage of division of votes to be garnered by the opposition parties in upcoming Punjab assembly elections 2017.”

“Led by a team of dedicated workers, the party will be committed to address the pressing need to face the challenge of political, social and economic realities which have brought the Punjab to the brink of disaster. The Party will take special care to restore law and order in the state which has collapsed totally. It will make special efforts to bring human dignity and respect to all the individuals”, he said.

He added, “With a view to form a representative government in Punjab, the Party’s agenda focuses on tackling the thorny issues of corruption, drugs and unemployment along with settling long pending water and territorial claims of Punjab. Health and education services in Punjab are on the verge of collapse and the Party will take special care to restore its pristine position.
The Party’s endeavour would be on promoting accountability and clean administration in the state.”

Gutej Singh IAS said the party would contest upcoming assembly elections-2017.
