High Court issues notice to Punjab government over illegal custody of Bapu Surat Singh

punjab_haryana_high_courtCHANDIGARH, Punjab—Punjab and Haryana high court today issued notice to Punjab government over illegal custody of Sikh human rights activist Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa who is continuing his hunger protest since January 16 for release of Sikh political prisoners languishing in various jails of India.

The court issued the notice on a petition filed by his son, Bhai Ravinder Jeet Singh ‘Gogi’ seeking direction to release him from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.

The petitioner sought permission from the high court bench to hear the matter on Thursday.The petition states that family members of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa are not being allowed to meet him. Also, it states, Bapu Surat Singh has been hospitalized in PGIMER without his and his family’s consent.
