High Court advises corpse of Ashutosh should be cremated

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Punjab & Haryana High Court has finally suggested to the Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan cult group to cremate the ex-leader Ashutosh’s dead body. Expressing dissatisfaction over the argument presented by the cult’s management, that Ashutosh is in ‘Samadhi’, the court has asked them to produce an example in modern times where a person entered ‘Samadhi’ and became reanimated again after a lengthy period of times.

Deferring the next hearing on November 30, the court has suggested the management to thoroughly accept reality and submit its decision on cremating Ashutosh by November 30.

Terming the case as one involving religious sentiments, the High Court asserted that delivering decisions on such issues is not in its domain but still it suggests the Sansthan’s management to seriously deliberate on the issue and cremate Ashutosh’s dead body as soon as possible.

It is notable that the anti-Sikh cult chief had passed away in January, 2015 but his disciples didn’t cremated his dead body. The Sansthan’s management placed his dead body in a freezer where it is still lies even now.

A singular bench of High Court represented by Justice M.S Bedi had ordered the Sansthan to cremate dead body within 15 days on December 1, 2014. But the Punjab government, Sansthan’s management and Dilip Kumar Jha (Ashutosh’s son) challenged the Court’s decision via the High Courts with other bench members, Justice S. J Wjifdar and Justice A.G Masih.
