Chandighar Lawyer Sukhmanpreet Singh gunned down

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Sippy Sidhu alias Sukhmanpreet Singh Talwandi, was found dead in the Sector 27 park of Chandigarh. As per reports, his body was ridden with bullet holes and was discovered by a passerby on Sunday night at around 11 pm.

The motive of murder is not yet known. He was a high profile lawyer belonging to a landlord family. Presently he lived in Chandigarh.

The police went to the spot and found the body in a pool of blood. A mobile phone, a watch, a ring and cash were recovered from the victim. His car was also found parked near the spot.The victim was taken to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, where doctors declared him brought dead.

According to the police, there were four marks on his body caused by pellets. No empty shells were found by the police from the spot.Sippy’s mobile phone, which was recovered from the spot, was locked. The police are analysing the call detail records of the mobile. Sippy had returned to India from Vancouver only four days ago.  The autopsy was completed at the GMSH after which the body was handed over to the family members. A case of murder has been registered at Sector 26 police station.  

The victim’s younger brother, Jasmanpreet Sidhu, a law researcher at the HC, said his brother did not have enmity with anyone. 

Area residents have revealed that Sippy was a frequent visitor to Sector 27 as his car was often seen parked in the area where the incident took place. They even heard gunshots. However, they thought somebody must be bursting crackers. 

Sippy Sidhu was the son of Advocate IPS Sidhu and grandson of Justice Sukhdev Singh Sidhu (Ret’d). He owned the ‘Sippy Sidhu Law Firm (LLP)’. He was also the founder and secretary of the Paralympic Committee of Punjab and was a keen shooter himself, competing at national level.
