Dismay at reinstatement of Senior Superintendant accused of killing of a Sikh youth in J&K

Uttam-chand

JAMMU & KASHMIR—Jammu & Kashmir authorities have been purportedly made to reinstate the Senior Superintendant of Police (SSP) Uttam Chand. Chand had been transferred away after an incident on June 4th, this year, where he and other officers had been accused of the use of excessive force against peaceful protesters, resulting in the fatal shooting of a Jashjeet Singh, a Sikh youth.

A public outcry led to the SSP being transferred away after being co-accused of murder and attempted murder of four other civilians.

His reinstatement now has caused anger in the Sikh community, voiced by Simranjeet Singh Mann, accusing the state toying with the sentiments of the aggrieved Sikh community there.

An immediate press conference, attended by the top brass of the District Gurdwara Prabandak Committee Jammu (DGPCJ) took place, criticising the reinstatement of Uttam Chand and demanded his immediate removal and review of the orders allowing him to return.
