CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Noted Sikh scholar Prof. Prithipal Singh Kapur has stated that in view of very high pay scale of the newly appointed chief secretary of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), any Sikh could challenge the appointment.

“It is for the first time in the history of the SGPC that it has appointed a chief secretary. In this case, pay scale of Punjab government’s chief secretary should also be known”, he said, adding, “he (chief secretary) should be given handsome salary but Rs. 3 lakhs is highly excessive.”

It has been learnt that pay scale of state government’s chief secretary is not more that Rs 2 lakhs monthly and it includes all the facilities being provided to him.
