Makkar: All Secretaries of SGPC to work under Chief Secretary Harcharan Singh

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar today stated that all the secretaries of the apex Sikh body will work under newly appointed chief secretary Harcharan Singh.

Makkar was talking to media persons today while handing over appointment letter to Harcharan Singh who assumed charge of chief secretary.

He hoped that all the secretaries would work under chief secretary as team for the betterment of the institution.

“Harcharan Singh has long and valuable experience in different fields which would benefit the institution budget of which exceeded Rs 1000 crores. Dire need of creating the post arose as SGPC’s work load has increased”, he said.

Besides secretary Roop Singh and Manjit Singh, all the additional secretaries, managers of Sri Darbar Sahib were present on the occasion. They congratulated Harcharan Singh for assuming the charge.

It is worth mentioning that the SGPC’s executive committee created the post of chief secretary who will be paid Rs 3 lakhs monthly, despite opposition from Sikhs throughout the world. Various Sikh bodies held demonstrations to press the SGPC to withdraw its controversial decision. Shiromani Akali Dal (1920) has announced to move court against the move. By creating the post, the Gurdwara body is drawing flakes from every sections of Sikhs.

  1. I think Sikh parents themselves have to blame for this because Sikh children are day by day running away from their religious duties & parents have no check on it.
