Sikhs Observe Martyrdom Anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Jugraj Singh Smalsar

SMALSAR, Punjab—The 24th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Jugraj Singh Smalsar was observed by the Sikh Sangat at his native village. Prominent Sikh personalities paid tribute to Bhai Sahib. Following the bhog of Sri Sehaj Path, kavishri jathas of Bhai Sadhu Singh Dhammal and Bhai Gurmail Singh Komal addressed with sangat and shares specific incidents from Bhai Sahib’s life.

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh who was also present there, addressed the Sikh sangat and said that Bhai Jugraj Singh’s sacrifices could not forgotten.  “Bhai Jugraj Singh Smalsar attained martyrdom while fighting against the cruel strategies of the Indian regime,” he said.  “Those communities always rise to high spirit who don’t forget the sacrifices of their martyrs,” he added.

Former Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh said that it is necessary for all of us to unite on a common platform to compete with the challenges facing the Sikh nation. He appealed the Sikh masses to make efforts for the establishment of sovereign Sikh state.

Former Member Parliament and Vice President of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar, Bhai Dhian Singh Mand said that Sikhs will never be given justice in India. “To live an independent life, Sikhs need a sovereign state,” he added.

Mother of Shaheed Bhai Jugraj Singh Smalsar was honoured with mementos and siropaos by different organizations. Families of other Shaheed Singhs were also honoured in this program.
