BREAKING: Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara and 14 Others Acquitted

Chandigarh, Punjab—A trial court of Union Territory of Chandigarh today acquitted 14 accused in the Burail jail break case along with Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara and  Bhai Paramjit Singh Bheora.

Defence lawyer S. Amar Singh Chahal informed ‘Sikh24’ that Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara and Bhai Paramjit Singh Bheora got acquitted due to the adjustment of their sentences towards the announced punishment.

Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, Bhai Paramjit Singh Bheora, Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara and Devi Singh succeeded in escaping from the Burail Jail, Chandigarh by digging a tunnel on January 21, 2004. Later, about 15 others including the Jail personnel were charged legally in this case by the investigating authorities.  

A co-accused in the case Bibi Baljit Kaur died due to Cancer during the trial of the case, while Gurwinder Singh and Devi Singh was announced proclaimed offender by the court.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate Anubhav Sharma today acquitted Bhai Narain Singh Chaura, Bhai Gurdeep Singh, Bhai Sher Singh, Bhai Subeg Singh, Bhai Nanad Singh, Bhai Lakhwinder Singh, Bhai Gurnam Singh and Bhai HP Singh from the case.

The honourable court also acquitted the Jail personnel from the case accepting their innocence towards incident. The six jail officials that get benefit from the Court’s decision are D. S Rana (Jail Superintendent), D. S Sandhu (Deputy Jail Superintendent), P.S Rana (Assistant), V.M Gill(Deputy Jail Superintendent), Nishan Singh (Head Warden) and Inder Singh (Warden).  

It’s important to note that this does not mean the release of Bhai Jagtar Singh, due to the other pending cases against him. Namely, the assasination of Cheif Minister Beant “Singh”.
