PSGPC Announces Rs 1 Lakh for Pak Sikh Girl Class Topper

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—A Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) on Friday announced that they will honor a Pakistan Sikh girl, Manbir Kaur, who topped her class, with a cash prize of Rs. 1oo,ooo.  

Fifteen-year-old Manbir Kaur belongs to the Nankana Sahib district of Punjab (West)  province, and secured  first place in the metric examination in Pakistan getting 1,035 marks out of 1,100. Her father is Giani Prem Singh who is the head granthi at Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib, birth place of Sri Guru Nanak Jee.

The apex Gurdwara body of the country has also declared to set up a fund for brilliant Sikh students and initially donated Rs 1 million for the fund.

A daily newspaper reported that more than 200 Sikh families reside in Nankana Sahib. Manbir Kaur is willing to get admission in a private college in Lahore. For performing very well in the examination, she is entitled to a scholarship for both the government and private institutions. Her ail is to become doctor for which she has applied for a pre-medical course.
