AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Although Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) has already announced that it has assigned the Kar Sewa of Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib Narowal to SGPC, it has introduced certain pre-conditions which the SGPC needs to meet to get the Kar Sewa.

The first condition is that the original Nanakshahi Calendar of 2003 has to be followed by the SGPC. Secondly, the SGPC should openly announce that they recognise the PSGPC. These pre-conditions have brought an interesting twist to the ongoing saga. It will be interesting to see how the SGPC responds.

In 2010, the SGPC had discarded the original Nanakshahi Calendar which was implemented in 2003 by the Panj Singh Sahiban, under the pressure of Sant Samaj and other brahmincal forces. However, many other key Sikh bodies including the PSGPC have been sticking to the original Nanakshahi Calendar since 2003.

Interestingly, due to the ongoing calendar row and the differences in dates of Gurpurab,  the SGPC could not send its jatha to Pakistan for the second successive year to observe the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev.
