Akal Takhat Jathedar Condemns Arrests of Sikh Activists; Labels Demands of Bapu Surat Singh as Genuine

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—The appointed Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Gurbachan Singh, has strongly condemned the arrests of Sikh activists across Punjab by the state police. Jathedar said that the Police was disturbing the peaceful environment of state by harrassing Sikh activists and their families by conducting raids on their homes.

Expressing solidarity with the campaign for the release of political Sikh prisoners, Jathedar said that Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa’s demands are genuine and the Government needs to work on putting aside legal hurdles in the release of Sikh detainees who being held in excess of their served their terms.

Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa is a 83 year old Sikh activist from California who has been on hunger strike since January 16, 2015, for the release of political prisoners who not been released despite the competition of their terms.
