Singh beaten up 1SANGRUR, Punjab—The Punjab Police on Saturday thrashed hundreds of unemployed linemen and their family members, leaving them seriously injured. The police also committed disrespect of their hair and turbans outside of the residence of Punjab Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa.

The police crossed all limits of acceptable conduct when they began to pull the unemployed youth by their hair and legs. Their turbans were removed as they were beaten. Some ladies were also left unconscious after being hit by the policemen with large sticks. They were taken to hospital promptly.

The unemployed linemen were holding  a peaceful demonstration, gathering at BSNL park to raise their demands. As soon as they approached the residence of Dhindsa, the police stopped them. When the protesters tried to move forward ignoring the order of the police, violence erupted.

In protest against the attitude and actions of the police, the protesters have decided to appeal to the Human Rights Commission.
