Sant Bhindranwale is regarded as a revolutionary by Sikh masses living in Punjab and abroad. For this reason, his pictures can be seen at Gurdwaras across the world. Although Sant Jarnail Singh was a religious leader, he stood up for Sikh rights. He was a strong advocate of the Anandpur Sahib resolution which demanded equal rights for the Punjabi people.
His discourses would often include how Sikhs were being marginalized in the country they helped free from British rule. He would often state in his discourses that “neither must Sikhs oppress nor should they live under oppression”.
A large portrait of Sant Bhindranwale is on display at the Central Sikh Museum at the Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar. Just recently, a memorial was also established in his memory at the holiest shrine.
Following the massacre of innocent Sikhs in 1978, Sant Bhindranwale came into the limelight as he highlighted growing injustices against the Sikhs. His following grew in the years that followed, and by the early 1980s, he had established himself as one of the most influential Sikh leaders in history. The Government became envious and in 1984, it chose the day of fifth Sikh Guru’s martyrdom to invade the holy shrine of Sri Harmandir Sahib. Sant Bhindranwale and his men were outnumbered, however they kept the Indian army at bay for days, however on June 6, he achieved martyrdom.
As a Sikh, I am proud of Sant Soldier Baba jarnail Singh khalsa bhindrawala.
He was, is and will forever in hearts of true sikhs.
