12 year Incumbents Washed out in J&K Gurdwara Committee Elections

JAMMU & KASHMIR—In the elections held after 12 years for the management of Gurdwaras in J&K, the native Sikhs there totally washed out the previous leadership and elected new faces to look after the management of Gurdwaras here. The voting was conducted under tight security in Baramula, Sri Nagar, Pulvama and Anantnag districts of J & K to elect 11 members. 

995000__14Rattan Singh, Budha Singh and Jangbahadur Singh were elected without competing election. S. Kuldeep Singh (Former President), S. Manjit Singh (Former Secretary) and Gurmeet Singh lost their positions in Sri Nagar.  

Former President from district Baramula again got elected, but his faction candidates had to lose their positions. Sikhs of districts Pulwama and Anantnag has also elected new candidates.  Eleven members have been elected in district Punch.

The elected members will constitute Gurdwara Management committees in 11 districts according to Jammu Kashmir Gurdwara Act of 1973.  These members of District Gurdwara Committees will in turn elect a member. Some Sikh parties and leaders have also suggested the newly elected to organize auditing of accounts managed by former members.
