Former Punjab Deputy Speaker Questions Chief Minister on Drugs

2013-01-03-drugaddictsCHANDIGARH, Punjab—Bir Davinder Singh, former deputy speaker of Punjab has questioned Punjab Chief Minister over why he is denying the problem of drugs in the state.  Bir Davinder Singh has stated that a strong nexus exists between drug peddlers and politicians.

In a press note, Bir Davinder Singh stated that “it is a matter of great worry that the Chief Minister of Punjab Mr. Parkash Badal appears to be in a denial mood to admit the naked truth about the drug menace in Punjab. This kind of deceptive frame of mind is proving detrimental to the critical interests of the life and health of the youth of Punjab.”

He added that Punjab has the worse rate of drug abuse in India.  “There is no denying the fact that in Punjab, all kind of noxious drugs are available in abundance, in each city and town. Punjab continues to be a safe haven for drug peddlers,” he added.

“Although the Punjab police has done incredible job in arresting the ‘king pin’ of the multi-layered ‘Drug Trade’, Mr. Jagdish Singh Bhola and his accomplices, thereby exposing the strong nexuses between the drug peddlers and politicians of the ruling dispensation in Punjab, but this is not enough. Much more is still required to be done to combat drug trade in Punjab, more effectively and more doggedly.”

He added, “The Chief Minister of Punjab Mr. Parkash Badal sounds bit too economical in honesty confessing the deep rooted peril of drugs, pervasive in Punjab. He should candidly admit the decay rather than unnecessarily lock horn with everybody who points a finger on Punjab in this matter. He must abdicate his illusionary mindset and be real to address the issue which has already spread all over in Punjab and ceaselessly eating in to the vitality of the younger generation in alarming   proportions.”
