Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera’s parents meet their son after 8 Years

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Finally, parents of Sikh political prisoner Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera who was transferred from Karnataka’s Gulbarga jail to Amritsar’s central jail earlier this week, got opportunity to meet their beloved son after eight years. The jail authorities on Saturday permitted them and other family members to meet Bhai Khera. However, representatives of Some Sikh bodies were not permitted to do so.

Bhai Khera’s kin including father Sardar Banta Singh, mother Mata Jagir Kaur, sisters Parmjit Kaur, Kuldeep Kaur, sister’s sons Husanpreet Singh, Veerpal Singh, Gurjot Singh, sister’s daughters Gurpreet Kaur and Mannatpreet Kaur met him in jail. Meeting her son after long period, Bhai Khera’s mother got emotional and tears started to be out of her eyes.

Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) general secretary Jarnail Singh Sakhira and Harbir Singh Sandhu, Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) leader Baldev Singh Sirsa etc. reached jail to meet Bhai Khera but the jail administration did not allow them to do so.

After meeting, Bhai Khera’s kin told that he is in Chardi Kla and he thanked Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa, Panthik organizations and Punjab government for contributing his transfer from Karnataka to Punjab.

Father Sardar Banta Singh said that his son should be released now. He urged Punjab government to make efforts to ensure his release. For now, they would file plea for his release on parole.

Prior to this, Sikhs For Human Rights chairman Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema and Committee for Release of Sikh Political Prisoners member Bhai RP Singh also met Bhai Khera.
