Exactly After 100 Years, Commemoration Takes Place for the Sikh Regiment at the Battle of Gallipoli (Turkey)

LONDON, UK—An event titled “1914 Sikhs” was held earlier this week to commemorate the contribution of the Sikh regiment at the battle of Gallipoli (Turkey) and throughout the Great War (Word War I).

Reverend Dr. Sam Wells, vicar of St Martin-in-the-Fields and Mandeep Kaur, Sikh Chaplain to the British Armed Forces were both present at the event, along with other noted personalities.

Both Christian hymns and Sikh shabads were sung. The kirtan was done by the Gursevak Jatha and the Acapella Jatha.  Mankamal Singh from Singh Sabha East London read “An Unknown Sikh Soldier’s Letter.”

The community gathered for Commemoration of the contribution of the Sikh Regiment at the Battle of Gallipoli. A service took place for the Sikh Regiment at this very church 100 years ago this weekend gone.
