Massive March Held in Support of Bapu Surat Singh from Akal Takht Sahib to Hasanpur

LUDHIANA, Punjab—In support of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa who is on hunger strike since January 16, a protest march from Sri Akal Takht Sahib to Hasanpur village (Ludhiana) was held seeking permanent release of Sikh political prisoners languishing in various jails of India.

Before starting the march, Sikh activists did ardas at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. The March was led by Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala Damdami Taksal and participated by United Akali Dal leaders Bhai Mohkam Singh, Gurdeep Singh Bathinda, Wassan Singh Jaffarwal, Satkar Committee Haryana head Bhai Sukhwinder Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Sikh Youth Federation Bhindranwala (Amritsar) president Bhai Gurjinder Singh and Sikh Sangat in large numbers.

Talking to media persons, Bhai Ajnala said that Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa is on hunger strike for past three months. He was hospitalized forcibly by the police but later released, however his strike has been continuing. Bhai Ajnala warned that if government did not consider the demand of Bapu Surat Singh, it will have to face dire consequences.

As per the programme schedule announced by Sangharsh Committee, next marches will be held from Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib (May 27) and Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Talwandi Sabo (May 29). All these processions will conclude at village Hasanpur. The committee has also announced to jam the railway traffic on Delhi-Amritsar track on May 31 from 12 PM to 2 PM.
