AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Sri Akal Takht Sahib appointed Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh on Thursday stated that as per edict issued by Panj Singh Sahiban (highest presidium of Sikhs) during the seva of Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti, holy saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib could not be brought to prohibited places like ‘Jatheras’, ‘Kabaras’, ‘Dargahas’ etc. for purpose of doing Akhand Path Sahib as it is against tenets of Sikh religion.

He endorsed the ban on this activity in context to the incident of beating up Pathis by members of Satkar Committee near Sultanpur Lodhi.

The Jathedar directed Sikhs to organize Akhand Path Sahib only in Gurdwaras or houses.  He admitted that Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Shingara Singh Lohian was involved in violating the Sikh Maryada at Lohian. He had facilitated the Akhand Path Sahib on a prohibited place going against edict of Akal Takht Sahib. Photos of his attendance in that function went viral on social media. But he kept silence over whether he would be punished.

He said that it is primary duty of Granthi Singhs to spread Gurmat ethos and inspire Sikh Sangat to stop its violation.
