NZ Sikh Youth Removes Turban to Help Injured Child

AUCKLAND, NZ—A Sikh youth from Auckland has been praised for taking initiative to help a child.  Harman Singh, 22, used his turban to help a five-year-old who was hit by a car while he was on his way to school.  After the incident, Harman Singh said that he didn’t have to think twice before using his turban.

In a statement after the incident, Singh said that the young boy needed something to put under his head as he was bleeding a lot.  He felt that it was his duty to use the turban to make the boy feel at ease.

A picture of Harman Singh was taken on spot and posted on Facebook.  It has now gone viral and multiple news outlets have reported on the incident and have praised the actions by the Sikh youth.

Turban is a sacred Sikh religious article.  Sikhs have long been a target of hate due to their unique appearance.  Hate crimes elevated against the Sikhs ever since the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks by terrorists in America.  Sikhs in New Zealand and Australia too have faced similar incidents in past.  Sikhs are members of a distinct faith, founded 500 years ago in Punjab.
