Moga Incident: Orbit Buses Off the Road in Punjab For The Time Being

OrbitCHANDIGARH, Punjab—Fearing widespread outrage across the state over the death of teenage girl who was molested and thrown off from a Orbit bus owned by Badal family near Moga, Punjab deputy Chief minister Sukhbir Badal on Saturday ordered to stop service of Orbit buses with immediate effect.

Badal said that the buses would go off the road till training to its staff was completed. As per a senior officer of Punjab government, duration of the training is maximum one week and the transport department is planning to run the training centre at Jalandhar, Patiala, Bathinda and Mohali. The management of the company said that the decision to not ply the buses has been taken as per the Deputy CM’s directions. 

As per sources, intelligence wing of Punjab Police reported Punjab government that in coming days, Orbit buses could be attacked and following uproar in media, providing security to the buses would be difficult. In view of dire situation for them, Badals have decided to stop service of their buses.

The company operates other air-conditioned and non-AC buses also and the staff of these buses has been notorious for violating rules and laws.

It is worth mentioning that the Moga incident has triggered great uprising and political storm in Punjab and India against the Badals. Socio-political scene of the state is going very sensitive and protests are being staged by all political outfits including Congress and Aam Aadmi Party, and other organizations across the state
