International Conference Held in Birmingham To Focus on Minority Rights in India

BIRMINGHAM, UK—Leaders of various minorities residing in India jointly participated in the International Conference at Council House of Birminghim on April 25. Prominent political parties of UK participated in this conference to discuss various issues and topics. The attendees discussed the current condition of Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir in India. Daughter of Bapu Surat Singh Ji Khalsa, Bibi Roopinder Kaur from Seattle, USA, was specially invited to take part in this conference.

Roopinder Kaur spoke about her father’s struggle in India.  Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa has been on hunger strike since January 16, 2015, in Punjab to seek the rights of political prisoners.  She was honoured by representatives of the Sikh Organization for Prisoner Welfare.

Councillor Narinder Kaur Kooner extended support to Sikh and Kashmiri self-determination and suggested local authorities to endorse human rights of these minorities through pressure at an international level.

Amrik Singh Sahota of the Council of Khalistan stated that Sikhs and other minorities are facing aggression from the current Government.  He said that the Sikh Nation had passed a resolution in 1986 seeking an independent homeland during a gathering of Sarbat Khalsa in 1986.  

Raja Amjad Khan from the All Parties Kashmir Co-ordination Committee asked various minority groups to work together and support each other in securing their support to seek political backing in the UK.
