California Gursikh Boy Places High in National Contest

SAN JOSE, California—A California resident, Nirban Singh Bhatia has placed 8th in the nationwide Invest Write contest sponsored by SIFMA (Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association).  Nirban Singh is a freshman at the Harker School in San Jose, California.

The contest, as described by the Invest Write website is “an innovative national writing competition”, produced by The Stock Market Game program.  It adds a critical thinking component to help reinforce concepts learned in the classroom.

The contest receives thousands of essays from students in the US.

Nirban Singh placed 8th out of all the essays submitted by grades 9-12 students.  Considering he is a freshman, an 8th place finish is highly commendable. He was the only person of Punjabi descent, and the only Gursikh to participate in the contest.

Nirban is 14 year old, and loves to play basketball and is a regular at the San Jose Gurdwara.
