SURREY, BC, Canada—Sikhs from the lower mainland area in Vancouver held a protest at Strawberry Hill Cineplex Odeon Cinemas on Sunday evening. The protest was against the film Nanak Shah Fakir which has depicted and personified Guru Nanak Dev Jee, which is against Sikh beliefs.
Last week local Sikhs held discussions with theatres in the area and they had all agreed to stop all shows of the film immediately. The only theatre holding back was Strawberry Hill Cineplex, citing distribution contracts.
Over 200 Sikhs stood outside the theatre and demanded the film be stopped immediately. The film has been stopped almost worldwide at most theatres.
