BREAKING: Sikh Organization Sends Cooks and Food Supplies To Provide Free Food in Earthquake-hit Nepal

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Besides sending prepared food for victims of the earthquake that took place in Nepal, the supreme Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has also decided to organize Langar (Free community kitchen) at Kathmandu to provide food to the victims.

Today, the ration was sent by the Sikh body to Nepal from Sri Darbar Sahib by bus.  All supplies needed to provide warm meals for Nepalese have been sent through the bus.  In the coming days, more buses will be flagged off.  A number of other Sikh organizations, namely the Delhi Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee and the management of Takht Sri Patna Sahib have also sent buses and food packets to Nepal.

Roop Singh told Sikh24 that the SGPC has always played a leading role in extending aid to victims of the natural calamities and this time it has also constituted a committee to oversee and manage the entire relief work. He said that besides sending food packets, langaris (cooks) have also been sent to organize langar there.

He added that the SGPC would continue the humanitarian aid till normalcy returned.  Langar will be served to everyone irrespective of their caste, creed or religion.
