Following Protests, SGPC Allows Pingalwara’s Stall Back

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Following the opposition against the removal of a 60-year old book stall of All India Pingalwara Charitable Society founded by late Bhagat Puran Singh Pingalwara from the premises of Sri Darbar Sahib, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Saturday had to withdraw its order by allowing the book stall back.

After the SGPC officials on Friday removed the stall and other belongings of the reputed institution on directions of Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal, its chairperson Dr. Inderjit Kaur staged a protest. She had warned that she would continue the protest till the stall was put back. Sikh Sangat and admirers of Bhagat Puran Singh irked over the SGPC move and lashed out at the supreme Sikh body.  Finally, the SGPC allowed to put the stall back on another place.

Reacting on the SGPC’s move of putting the stall at another place, Dr. Inderjit Kaur said that the present stall had been established on the order of SGPC additional secretary Diljit Singh Bedi. She said SGPC offered them three places for re-establishing the stall and after all the places were examined, they have decided to opt the place next to ‘Jora Ghar’ near stall of literature of Dharam Parchar Committee. Before putting the stall back, Dr. Inderjit Kaur thanked Guru Sahib at Sri Darbar Sahib.

Speaking in this regard, Diljit Singh Bedi said that Pingalwara institution had been working for welfare of humanity for long. So, SGPC had directed to make proper arrangement of putting the stall back near the stall of Dharam Parchar Committee.
