Nanak Shah Fakir: Sikh Youth Submit Memorandum to Akal Takht Sahib

DSC_4426AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Led by Bhai Harjinder Singh, activists of Sikh youth body ‘Neelian Faujan’ today met Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh to hand over the memorandum urging him to ensure ban on the anti-Sikh Hindi movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’.

The memo reads, “You know a film entitled ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ is being released on April 17 which is grave violation of Sikh principles and directions of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. As per Sikh tenets, any person cannot present personified characters of Guru Sahiban and their family members in a film. If anybody DSC_4546does so, he abuses norms and tenets of Sikh religion. In the film, Harinder Sikka has committed blasphemy by facilitating role of Guru Nanak Sahib and his sister Bebe Nanaki Jee played by persons which is not tolerable.”

The Sikh activists warned that if screening of the film is not stalled, it would prove to be ‘suicidal’. They urged the Jathedar to take rigid action against maker of the film Harinder Sikka. “All prints of the film should be taken and destroyed so that others could learn lessons in future. If the film producer does not follow Akal Takht’s directions, rigid action should be taken against him as per Sikh traditions.”

“Our organization is fully committed to Sikh principles and Sri Akal Takht Sahib. We will be ready to fulfill any duty you would assign to us”, they spoke to the Jathedar.

They also told that Sri Darbar Sahib Hazuri Ragi Bhai Nirmal Singh Khalsa was also present on release function of film’s music which is quite unfortunate. All Singhs wore Nihang dress and they also demonstrated outside Sri Darbar Sahib displaying posters to create awareness amongst masses about the film.
