CHANDIGARH, Punjab—It has been learnt through various sources that Punjab and Haryana high court today issued notice to Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on removal of  Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh from the post of Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib Talwandi Sabo.

Jathedar Nandgarh had filed a petition in the court couples of week ago challenging his sacking by the SGPC following which the court had directed the supreme Sikh Gurdwara Body to provide him a copy of his appointment letter that was issued to him in 2003.

It is worth mentioning that leadership of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and SGPC were unhappy with Jathedar Nandgarh over his stand in favour of original Nanakshahi Calendar. Besides, he also made public statement in favour of independent Sikh homeland i.e. Khalistan. Under pressure of Sant Samaj and RSS, SGPC had sacked Jathedar Nandgarh without consent of general house of the SGPC.

In fact, Nandgarh has accused the RSS of being behind the move of the Sant Samaj for reverting to the Bikrami calendar. So by removing Nandgarh, the SAD leadership hopes to please the RSS and the BJP.
