PATIALA, Punjab—Punjabi University Patiala Gatka players won 3rd All India Inter University Gatka Championship concluded here today. Chairman Backward Classes Commission and former president SGPC Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar gave away the prizes to the winners.
On this occasion, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee member and President Delhi Gatka Association Paramjit Singh Rana was present as the guest of honour besides university sports director Dr. Raj Kumar Sharma and General Secretary Gatka Federation of India Harjeet Singh Grewal. Champion teams of this tournament were awarded with Rs. 31,000/- as cash prize. Similarly runners-up team got Rs 21,000/- and third team got Rs 11,000/- cash prize respectively.
Overall Championship
Punjabi University won the overall trophy whereas Punjab University Chandigarh secured second and Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar got third position.
Team positions
In Women’s section, Punjabi University won first position, GNDU Amritsar got second and Punjab University got third place. In Men’s section Punjabi University achieved first position. Punjab University secured second and GNDU got third position.

In individual single stick event (men) Simranjit Singh and Gurpreet Singh of Punjabi University got Gold and Silver medals respectively whereas Jasvir Singh of GNDU and Samarpal Singh of SGGS World University Fatehgarh Sahib won Bronze medals.
In team event of single stick (men) Punjabi University won first positions, Punjab University and Delhi University won second and third positions respectively. In fari-stick team event (men) Punjab University got first position, Punjabi University and Guru Kashi University Talwandi Sabo got second and third positions respectively.
In fari-stick individual event (men) Satnam Singh of Punjabi University got Gold, Jagroop Singh of GNDU got Silver. Chitmanjit Singh Grewal of PTU Jalandhar and Lovepreet Singh of Punjab University got Bronze medals. EOM
