Sikh Prisoners Issue: Hundreds Take Part in 2nd Bathinda March But Police Interfaces and Stops Protesters

BATHINDA, Punjab—The second protest march for the release of Sikh political prisoners who have completed their sentences was held yesterday in Bathinda.  Hundreds of Sikhs, along with a number of Panthik organization jointly carried out the march.

Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal and Gurdeep Singh Bathinda led the march to the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

March was stopped midway however; when the police intervened and only allowed 15 members of the Sangharsh Committee to proceed forward.  At the Deputy Commissioner’s office, police further tried to interfere and stated that only 5 persons were allowed to submit the memorandum.

Sikh protesters however refused to comply with the police and tore the memorandum in front of the DC’s office.

A number of protest marches have been held in favour of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa since his illegal arrest last month.
