ANANDPUR SAHIB, Punjab— Pro-freedom Sikh political party Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) organized a conference at Sri Anandpur Sahib to mark festival of Hola Mahalla. The party leaders raised the issue of independent Sikh state ‘Khalistan’ and sought the release of Sikh freedom fighter Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara. A large gathering was witnessed during the conference.
While addressing, SAD (A) president Simranjit Singh Mann alleged that Bhai Tara was being framed in false cases. He said the goal of Khalistan was set by Shaheed Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale himself and Sikhs could gain nothing without achieving this goal.
The former member of Indian parliament sought an amendment to the Constitution to ensure protection of the interests of the Sikh nation.
Mann also criticised the move to operate international flights from the Chandigarh airport. He alleged the step, okayed by Punjab as well as Centre, had resulted in the grounding of international flights from the Amritsar airport.
“This is injustice to the people living in Majha,” he said. He also demanded that the control of dams built on rivers in Punjab be handed over to the United Nations Organisation.
