Georgia School Takes Disciplinary Action Against the Sikh Boy and Other Students Involved in Bullying Incident

DULUTH, GEORGIA, USA—After the video of a Sikh boy from Georgia being called terrorist went viral on social media, Gwinnett County Public Schools in Georgia have taken disciplinary action.  In a press statement, Gwinnett County Public Schools stated that the incident was not an act of bullying and that “there had been a series of back-and-forth name-calling incidents… between students…. The school… has taken appropriate disciplinary action with the students who were involved.”

The video was uploaded this past Sunday by a user named “Nagra Nagra”, in which a Sikh boy named Harsukh Singh is being bullied by his fellow classmates at Chattahoochee Elementary School in Duluth, Georgia on a school bus.

The video was originally uploaded by Harsukh Singh, but has now been made private. The current video that is now going viral has been downloaded and re-uploaded by another user.  The video has now been viewed more than 800,000 times.

In the video Harsukh remains very calm and composed, as his schoolmates continue to bully him.  At one point in the video Harsukh Singh gets aggravated and retaliates back.  One of the kids is also heard threatening Harsukh when he figures out that their horrendous acts are being recorded. A girl on the bus is also seen yelling “Terrorist! Terrorist!” at the young Sikh.

The uploader says that Harsukh Singh had uploaded the video with the description: “Kids being racist to me and calling me an Afghan terrorist. Please don’t act like this towards people like me. If you don’t know, I’m not Muslim, I’m Sikh.”
