AMRITSAR SAHIB—To suppress the voice of Sikh Nation for the release of illegally detained Political Sikh Prisoners, Punjab Police has started conducting raids on homes of Panthik Leaders.  A number of these leaders were arrested yesterday in relation to the struggle initiated by Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa for the release of Sikh detainees.  It is important to mention that these leaders were about to conduct an awareness march across Ludhiana on February, 28.

SYF leaders condemned the arrest of Gurdeep Singh Bathinda (General Secretary of United Akali Dal).  During the police raids, Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa’s son, Ravinderjit Singh Gogi, Damandeep Singh and Journalist Surinder Singh were also arrested from the Ludhiana Civil Hospital. Journalist Surinder Singh was released after few hours but the police detained Ravinderjit Singh Gogi.

“Rumors regarding the arrest of Sikh Youth Front activists also remained wandering across Sikh circles, this was done to bring down the morale of Sikhs across the state,” said SYF leaders. It is notable that activists of Sikh Youth Front played a vital role in promoting the struggle of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa at its initial stage. A day before these raids, Sikh Youth Front organized an awareness campaign about the struggle of Bapu Ji outside Sri Harmandir Sahib complex.

General Secretary of Sikh Youth Front, Bhai Papalpreet Singh, strictly condemned these arrests, labeling them as anti-Sikh. He said that the Badal Government has depicted its anti-Sikh psyche by arresting these leaders.

Media Secretary of Sikh Youth Front, Bhai Pritpal Singh, said that the Akali Dal always remained critical of the armed struggle, but now that the Sikh nation is struggling peacefully, such activities by the Akali Government show that they will remain embedded with anti-Sikh mentality.
